SBB – Prayers for Sugar

Hello everyone.

Today, my goal is not to bust Sunday blues, but to remember a little dog who busted so many of my blues, every day, for the last 7 years.

Sugar Sweetheart Morris came to the Morris household in 2010.  She was the perfect dog for our family.  She was gentle, quiet, sweet, hungry, quirky, occasionally grumpy, but always faithful.  She loved baths, walks, performing in obedience school, eating people food, sleeping on my bed, and meeting new people.

Yesterday, my family found out she has anemia, and a tumor in her spleen.

As we are still trying to decide whether to attempt surgery on a +9-10 year old dog, or let her pass away naturally, or euthanize, I would ask that you remember us in your prayers.  I wanted to share a Sugar timeline in photos – from oldest to most recent, ending with a water color portrait I made of her a few years back.  She has never been mean to me.  She always listens.  She has always been there for me.  She has never interrupted me.  She has never been disappointed in me.  She has always trusted me.  And I’m so grateful for the time the Lord has given my family with her.

  1. Dear Shannon, I will be praying for you and Sugar! She is a very sweet dog and such an easy-going companion. That is a hard decision to make. 😦 Our dog, Ellen, is slowing down a lot too.

  2. I am so sorry, Shannon. I’m praying for your sweet dog, as well as for you and your whole family. I’ve been through the loss of multiple pets, so I know that few things hurt more than losing one. 💔 I’m praying that if she must go, that it will be peaceful.

      1. You’re welcome – it was the least I could do. Right after I read your post, I knew that I had to share it with my readers. We are, but it was definitely hard for a while. Aw I’m thankful for you, too!

  3. “She has never interrupted me. She has never been disappointed in me. She has always trusted me.” – This is so, so sweet! I’m terribly sorry that your family is having to go through this. Making such a decision is so hard. 😦 I’ll be praying for you guys. 💕

  4. I’ll be praying for you and your family. ♥ I know what you must be feeling. My 13-year-old dog, Rosie, is in really bad shape (heart-worms) and I’m faced with the same decision. Last week, the vet wanted to try some medicines first, but she’s not improving.

I love the photos timeline! She is so cute. 🙂 And she’s very patient – Rosie would never let me put goggles on her head like that. XD

    1. Oh, I’m so sorry about your dog Rosie. She sounds precious – I know I would love her! I will pray for you, and your decision. I’m so glad you liked the timeline – yes, Sugar is incredibly patient! For her last little photo shoot yesterday, she was so sweet even though she didn’t feel good.

  5. Our sweet, sweet fur baby! She was a gift from God to our family 7 years ago on Mothers Day and has delighted us every day since. Still faithful and still a blessing.
